Legislation now requires most educators in the early childhood services industry to either hold or be working towards a Diploma level qualification. Course Requirements

To achieve the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care a total of 28 units of competency must be completed (23 core units and 5 elective units).

Qualification Pathway

After achieving this qualification, you may choose to pursue one of the following Degrees:

Entry Requirements

It is preferred that the students have obtained a minimum of an Australian Senior Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
Students are required to pass a Working with Children/ Vulnerable People Check (including Police Clearance) in the state or territory that they are working in prior to commencing work placement.

Student Selection Process

Kirana’s student selection process is designed to ensure that you are enrolled in the qualification that best meets your needs.

Kirana’s selection criteria will take into account various factors when deciding upon which students will be offered places in the program including;

  • The students’ needs and desired outcomes
  • The ability and commitment of the students to complete the course;
  • Eligibility requirements listed in the applicable National Training Package;
  • Students existing ability in the ACSF core skills, (learning, reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy)

Students not meeting these requirements will be directed to more suitable qualifications or skill development programs.

Work Placement

To be assessed as competent in this qualification, students are required to undertake 360 hours of supervised work placement in a regulated child care service which caters for children aged between 0-6. A minimum of 120 hours of this work placement will need to be completed specifically with babies 0-2 of age. In all work placement settings, students must have a minimum Diploma trained staff member supervising them throughout the work placement hours.

*If you have completed a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, you will only be required to complete 240 hours of work placement. Students will need to produce evidence of their Certificate.

ACT Skilled Capital – for students residing in ACT

This qualification can be funded to eligible students through ACT Skilled Capital, a subsidised training program offered by the ACT Government. Skilled Capital funding is available through Kirana Colleges Registered Training Organisations Kirana Training Pty Ltd RTO ID 52247. Skilled Capital is an ACT Government training initiative, funded by the ACT and Australian Governments.

NSW Smart and Skilled – for students residing in NSW

An important notice about Smart and Skilled

Access Training Institute, Insight Training Group Australia, Kirana Training, Learning Lab, Maxis Solutions, and Precision Training Australia (Kirana Colleges) are all contracted training providers under the New South Wales Smart and Skilled program. The following qualification and pricing information remains current for existing students under Smart and Skilled, who enrolled on or prior to 31 December 2016.

Queensland Higher Level Skills – for students residing in Queensland

VET FEE-HELP

Important Information for existing students with VET FEE-HELP loans

The Commonwealth Government’s VET FEE-HELP loan scheme still applies for any student that commenced study before 31 December 2016. For our existing students there are arrangements for you to continue with your course. If you’re an existing Kirana Colleges student with a VET FEE-HELP loan, you can expect to receive if you have not already, an email or letter from the commonwealth government. You should have also received information from Kirana Colleges confirming the steps you will need to take to continue studying. This correspondence will ask you to ‘opt-in’ to continue to study under the current VET FEE-HELP scheme. It’s important you respond by undertaking all actions mentioned, so there are no delays to your ongoing enrolment. If you’re an existing student, the VET FEE-HELP opt-in steps, allowing you to continue your studies, can be found here. Alternatively contact us through the Student Help Form.

This qualification can be offered to eligible students, all or in part, through VET FEE-HELP, a national Australian commonwealth loan scheme to help you get your studies started now and repayment of the loan once you earn to the compulsory repayment threshold.
